Should songwriter Raoul Guillaume have NOT written Mikaela in 1954, I wouldn’t have existed!
Allow me to tell you a little tale:
It was a beautiful bright star summer night… Raoul Denis Sr., (my dad) was dating the young and famous pianist Micheline Laudun (my mom), and invited her to the then-popular Rivera Night Club, Bicentenaire, Port-au-Prince. Raoul Guillaume and his “Grand Orchestre” were performing that night. At the first notes of the hit song at the time “Michaela” the dancefloor filled up with gracious couples, singing and dancing to the rhythm of the music. The shy Raoul invited the lady to dance and, courageously before the song ended, proposed to Micheline right on the dancefloor! Micheline (who secretly was expecting this moment), accepted with a big smile and… you know the rest of the story! They lived ‘’Happily ever after” 60 years of marriage, 4 kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids!

This is my story with Mikaela, and she deserves to be paid an honorable tribute.

My contributing pals to this song who enjoyed recording it as much as I did come from the most talented “creme de la crème” of New York-based Haitian musicians: Bobby “the jazz-bouncing bass” Raymond, renowned Tabou Combo musicians such as the lead guitar player Gary Josama and the piano player Jocel Almeus, the solid conga player Sergo Decius, and the Legendary 65-year performing accordionist Richard Duroseau who delivered an incredible authentic konpa style solo, right in the line of his passed compadre Nemours Jean-Baptiste.

Come with me to the dancefloor of the Rivera nightclub and… dance!
